I just got this very old motherboard m2n-e that I want to upgrade  with
a GT640-1GD5-L graphics card.
Now I'm wondering if the
GT640-1GD5-L which doesn't make use of any additional power cables
is a little to closely matched to the max powersupplying capabilities of the m2n-e's PCI-e 1.1 x16 slot.
The
GT640-1GD5-L is supposed to draw 75W max but I'm a little bit wary
wether that relatively early implementation of pcie 16x hardware on the the M2n-e will actually
perform up to spec in the long run.
Also I would like to know  wether there  are  any further compatibility problems to expect (  BIOS  etc. ).

Hi m..

Unless you can come across someone who has actually installed that particular card on the M2N-E, you really can't have any idea if its going to work..  The PCI-E specification stipulates 75watts available from the slot.. bit because or ageing effects in computer circuitry, that 'may' not be available in an older board...

Aclymer, in the thread below, appears to have been able to run a GT640 on his M2N series board...

I've done a bit of looking but can't find any specific example of an M2N-E with a GT640....

Thank's for your efforts Ulrich.
Then maybe  I'll just ask directly over at overclock.net or borrow  me
an old gt640 somwhere in order to try it out myself.
