As there was a lot of dust inside the cpu fan and heat sink, I unmounted them to clean them.
I also cleaned the top of the CPU to put some new thermal paste.

After remounting all, this is what happens at boot:
- the cpu fan start spinning fast
- after about 3/4 secs., apparently when the BIOS take control and it starts writing on the display, the fan stops
- a CPU Fan Error is displayed

Q-Fan is disabled on BIOS, so the CPU should always spin.
In the BIOS HW Monitor the CPU Fan is shown as "N/A".
I've tried with a brand new fan: same result.

Does anyone have any idea about what is going wrong?

Hi P..

Without being there it is difficult to know.. apparently the system can not read the RPM sense signal from a fan.. so you get the 'NA' indication.  I'll guess that when you disconnected the fan, there was some damage at the header..

Try it on a chassis fan header ....
