I read in the firmware thread that Asus has acknowledged the freezing problem with bluray. I was personally just about to rma mine. Personally when it happen on average every third bluray I watch. Generally after about 1h it´s not "seldom" but "frequently". I would hope this is the highest priority and Asus would offer to take back bluray players for those that just don´t find this acceptable. I have owned 6 bluray players and BDS-700 is the only one that has problem reading bluray discs apart from compability issues. It´s completly random the same movie can run through fine or it can hang. As for compability issues it´s not alone with though but again it´s on the lower part of the spectrum. Alien and Aliens directors cut you can´t watch on the BDS-700. You get a zoomed in picture of the top left. I know I am not alone with the freezing issues for regular bluray discs. If this is solved and if there could be some more clever fan control for playing bluray 3D content without shortening the life span of the player it would be very easy to recommend. I noticed it tend to run hot so I guess the later is hard to achieve.

I purchased today the bluray "The Hunger Games" and found again the two main issues:

1- The player freezed after about 76 minutes of playing time. I had to resart the player. This was a brand new disk, out of a sealed box.
2- Audio/Video not in synch after playing some minutes. Pause key didn't solve the issue, only reverse+play solve this.

My player freeze at approx. 45 min in the Blu-ray version of G.I.Joe The Rise Of Cobra. This is a brand new disc Region B. After a restart i am able to proceed 5 min. before next freeze of player and so on. Very disappointing, hoping for a solution soon, as the player is very fast and the picture quality is solid.

Well the next blu ray 3D isos* presents problems of stuttering:

Up 3D
Titanic 3D
Piranha 3DD

*They are copys of my original blu ray disc.
The problem is in both the blu ray disc, and the iso reproduce by a external hard drive.

Another problem you should revise is mkv with big size, because movies with a size bigger than 12 GBs presents problems as stuttering and lagging.

An please you could put the standar 1080p/24 on the reproduction of mkvs.
I dont understand why a blu ray iso is reproduced with the standard 1080p/24, which is good, and a mkv dont reproduce with this standar. Please fix it.

Thanks for your attention and I hope we can do the best player of the market together.

The Fifth Element Blu-ray Region B, is freezing at 41 min. and again at the 2 hour mark. I hope the firmware will be updated soon to adress these freezing of Blu-ray disc playback.

Mester have you tried running the movie again. I find that the hanging is generally pretty randomized. Last three bluray movies I checked have all hanged on me. Mission Impossible: Ghost protocol Safe House and Snow white and the Huntsmen. What is Asus take on this freezing issues? How come is this basic functionality as being able to play a bluray disc without crashing resolved yet. I had a rma for it sent in but realized it´s no point it will be the same even if I do get a replacement.

Öqvist: I have rewatched both movies and was this time able to complete them without freezing of the player. I experienced 2-3 one second or less freezing during playback of each movie, but no lockup of the player as last time. This maybe heat related, as I have moved the player from my AV-rack to completely freestanding with plenty of airflow around. The player still gets very hot on the bottom right side. Maybe a fan could cure the problem completely?. Or maybe a firmware upgrade with thermal load adjustment could fix the issue?. I will keep on testing, but this is the best playback result I have seen with Blu-ray discs.

Behaves the same as mine then. I moved mine from a DAC that produced some heat but it didn´t help anything at all for me. It still runs extremely hot to the touch and hangs more often then not during a bluray movie. Will see if I can find a blower fan and see if that changes anything.

I have watched The Resident Evil Collection on blu-ray region B, and have audio drop-out at 33 min. mark on Resident Evil: Apocalypse, i was able to recover with a short rewind. Resident Evil: Extiction player lock-up at 1 hour 15 min mark, after restart of player I was able to finish the movie. Watching The Matrix resulted in player lock-up at 1 hour 12 min mark, I was able to finish the movie after a restart of the player. Watching The Matrix Reloadede resulted in player lock-up at 1 hour 20 min mark, I did not finish this movie. My conclusion has to be that this player is not able to compete with a 100$ blu-ray player at current firmware version, and I have given up on playing from the disc drive. I do hope ASUS get their ducks in a row an solve this basic problem, because I still think this player has the potential to be great.
