Hi karim,

This is an issue with the 1206 BIOS. ASUS works with the problem, but a workaround until the new release arrives, is to use the Del key on the numeric keypad.
Another way is to press and hold the F8 key during the POST, and then select Enter Setup in the boot menu.

Thanks for posting this Hiker.  I noticed this too when I went to the 1206 BIOS.

Is there a list of known outstanding issues for the 1206?

I ran into another one that's a big problem for me; with 0906 my PS2 port worked fine, with 1206 it no longer works.  I'm trying to figure out if that's a known issue or something I should report through formal channels.

Tim

Please update your BIOS to the latest 1406, then it will roll back to normal boot mode on the first boot after you turn off your AC power to allow easy access to the BIOS setup screen.  See if this helps.

se note that bios 1406 adds new features that let you disable post for USB completely or partly and the same for the ps2 socket.

if you both disable these you wil not be able to get in the bios without a flashback trust me i tried :)

i was trying to get rid of this 8 seconds delay before you finaly hear the boot beep adn put all on disable to speed up the boot but it was a verry bad move.
asus should force you to have one of the 2 on depending on your keyboard.

still not figured out what caused the boot delay btw :(

If you disabled both the USB and PS/2 initial, you will be able to access the BIOS again after you cleared your CMOS settings.  That's shouldn't be that much of a trouble really.

8 seconds delay could be caused by spindle HDD initial, or that extra 3 seconds delay after AC Power Loss (which can also be disabled in BIOS), I will suggest to check if those two are related.

its definitely not the 3 sec asi set that to 0 sec since that is possible since bios version 1406 could try to take off the hard drives and try to boot then tho to see if its the hard drives.

just sounds weird to me as on every pc i had so far it beeps first and then initializes the HDD's byt maby ass does this differently.

just a shame that of my 35 seconds boot time 7/8 seconds is before the system even beeps.

hutjeflut, the other possibility may be the use of USB hub in your environment.  You can also set the USB initial to partial to see if that helps, as that will limit the USB initial to mouse and keyboard only.
