I updated my R1 as shown in the first post, went from Bootcode 17 to 23.  Player comes on, seems to be fine - although its now a PAL.  Nothing seems changed.

Do I go and get the latest firmware from ASUS or use the Blue shown here?   Exactly why am I doing this, what does it add?

For the initial bootcode upgrade..they say you may be able to try the regular system upgrade method but the "soft reset" (telnet) method is recommended. Read first post of the link for "upgrade firmware"

Upgrade firmware found here:

http://www.moservices.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=98

It is not hard at all. If you want to visually see what it should look like, I put together a .pdf with some screen shots. Links below

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ERYSV2V0

or

http://www.filesonic.com/file/52898811/Upgrade_to_bootcode_23.pdf

As for HD2 firmware, I am currently trying 1.12.06 rev 3.1 (blue screen) found here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SOVAOZGI

From the thread found here:

http://www.moservices.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=221

Update: After testing above HD2 firmware (rev 3.1), I don't like it! Colors seem off, glitchy lines on screen when switching media etc.

Go with rev 3 blue screen found here:

Hi Poker. Thank you very much for the great effort. I appreciate your guidance and the information you provided.

Well I loaded the Blue firmware - It works but Slooooow.

I really don't care about all the Moservice stuff, Can I load the Asus firmware for the HR2 and it work?

Also how do you setup the thumbnails for the ISO movies I have?

TIA

No you cannot use official firmware. It must be modded. Try the regular 1.12.06 found here:

The mod firmware is quite nice. Thanks to all the developers. However, we should be aware of some of the issues/differences with the current version. For example: 1. photo view doesn't have slide show mode anymore. 2. skip interval for Movie is default as 10min, I haven't found a way to set it differently. 3. iLive's adult video doesn't have passwd, so kids can see it too. Maybe someone can tell me how to delete the link to it. Regards, Laoye

For photo slide show, play a photo, then press the Musical Note Symbol key on the remote - now you can select slide show, ken burns effect etc.

For skip duration, play a movie, then press the Musical Note Symbol key on the remote - now you can adjust skip duration among other things.

I followed the instructions provided by Poker, and upgraded one of my three HDP-R1 boxes today. Everything worked like a charm.

Thank you!  :)

Poker, thanks for the tip. Can you confirm that it can not play network folder. I read somewhere but did not want to believe it, because the official Asus FW for R1 plays network folder just fine. Thanks again, Laoye
