I haven't really fooled with the modded firmware lately. I am running the amp7 blue skin on my R1, but it is now my bedroom unit. I have an actual HD2 as my main home theater unit. I would suggest you try the Play On skin version, it might give you the results you seek. You have to be willing it test and experiment.

Make sure you R1 is bootcode 18 or higher (press stop/then play on remote from home screen). If so it is safe to load modded firmware by Emergency Recovery (reset) method.

If bootcode 17 or less, you need to first upgrade the bootcode.

I really really like this firmware.  Thanks for it.  The music player is so much nicer.  I'm just going to have to figure out how to config it a bit, but other wise great.  Shame it doesn't autoswitch between digital audio passthrough and LPCM though.

EDIT:  Nevermind the audio does auto switch.  Really nice firmware.  lol I just screwed up by accidentally disabling the IR Fake RC Service (since I'm having problems with RC conflicting devices - motorola box and sound system :P).  Probably have to reflash the bugger now.

Quick question about telneting in and mounting shares permanently.  Does this firmware change the procedure at all?  Following the guide here on the forums for mounting shares I can't seem to get it work.  I'm wondering if the user is different like 'aouser' to 'venus' or something.

Thanks.

I couldn't tell you. I have never fooled with trying to mount shares permanently. With the Play On firmware you can easily add you drives/folders to "shortcuts" by going to file manager, navigating to your drive/folder and pressing the music symbol key on the remote, and select add to shortcuts.

Another little bonus I noticed fooling around with the amp(r7) POHD firmware is my ASUS N13 USB Wifi stick works with it. It never worked before with the R1(running R3 firmware) or my HD2.

Omg.. I love you man!  This firmware is amazing then.  You're right, even with network shares the music button plus add to shortcut actually works with the PlayOn firmware.  That alone makes it infinitely superior to any of the O!Play R1 firmwares by not having to mess around with Telnet at all.  My only wishlist item would be that there would be a way that it didn't have IR interference with both my Motorola PVR and my Spherix surround sound.  For instance, when I go volume down on my sound it skips ahead in a song or video.  Thankfully this firmware has a seek function for videos, so it doesn't ruin the movie.

Cheers!

Had a good run with this update and it is absolutely awesome.  By far the best update for your O!Play available.  Networking speed is way faster than any other firmware I've tested.  The player isn't spontaneously rebooting when I send it too many commands.  The network shortcuts work and don't seem to ever give the invalid entry notification.  My thumbnails now display properly in my movie folders, along with the IMDB movie description pages created with Thumbgen and activated by pressing the zoom button (mapped from slow command on A.C. Ryan PlayOn HD).

Great great update.

I know it's an old post but; does anyone still have the usable firmware file? I can't download it anywhere anymore because all links are (obviously after so long) down...
