Firmware HD2 1.12.06rev4 with built in R3 123 PAL (4 in 1) - new version of the firmware with 2 skins  from HD2 - blue and brown, embedded firmware from R3_123, also with two color schemes - Standard and Spring (thanks to [url = http://moservices.org / forum / viewtopic.php? p = 7224 # p7224] Abdicator [/ url]). Chose the firmware using the  moS module - Skin selector on the TV screen or in a web interface and thats all! You have a player with the firmware from the HD2, or R3 with your preferred color scheme. Switch can be any time, firs start from 1.12.06_blue;). moS pre-installed, no additional patches are required. Compared with version 3.2 fixes some bugs, optimized resources. Added support of the Wi-Fi devices on Ralink chips - rt2570, rt2870, rt3070, rt3572, rt73.

I'm using O!Play HDP-R1running HD2 1.12.06rev3.2 firmware. I'm using Samba deamon to access my external HDD in my home network. Is it possible to configure O!Play to access my HDD from outside my home network?

I guess i am missing something here.

What are the benefits to the modded firmware?

I just currently installed samba on my O!Play so i can access my external via my PC to transfer my videos, and mounted my network share from my PC under storage devices so it was much quicker getting to my network share.
Does this modded firmware do either one of these for me? I have read this form through and through and dont get it. Im running 1.35N currently and it works just fine. Whats the big deal here?

Speaking for myself, I am happy with the latest HD2 firmware. Though there are some points for improvement I think it is much better than Asus' official software.
Point for improvement are:

YouTube doesn't show all content (you get less results compared to Youtube on a PC, esp. official music videos don't show)
Samba fails with large files (though FTP is stable), I think there is a patch for that but I do not know how to apply it.

Is anyone still working on modified HD2 firmwares for the R1?  I've noticed the HD2 has seen 5-6 updates since the last modified versions posted here.

They are still working on modded firmware, but it is still based on the 1.12.06 firmware and POHD firmware. Look here

Hey Poker, thanks for the link, had a search in there and did not quite find what I was looking for. If you are up on the progress can you direct me to the firmware or thread that addresses the filing system improvments being worked on or completed. It is the only reason I am not using the HD2 as the files are in no specific alpha numeric order.
