My netbook suddenly died on me and when I tried to turn it back on, a message comes up saying that

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
you can attempt to repair this fule by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.

I have tried installing Windows through a USB but it has not worked. What else can I possibly do to reover my system and save my files from deletion??

Toscano,
Have you tried using an external usb cd-rom drive to boot XP cd?
Yes XP bootable USB key can't repair the system. I hope external drive will solve your issue otherwise go visit Asus service center.
