Hi,

I've got a problem with my netbook.

When I boot: the next message appears on the screen:

Hard Disk locked, enter user password:
(Press <ESC> to switch to Master Password)

Then when you continue to press a key it eventually comes up:
WARNING: Continue booting with this drive being locked might cause system to hang with some OS.
Hit ENTER to continue...
Upon hitting enter... it reads:
Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.

I never entered a password!

Does anybody have the same problem?

Have you tried disabling the password in the BIOS?

I know what you mean, but that's exactly the problem: I don't know the pass word because I didn't enter it.

I enabled the password too, I remember this but I can't disable it. The option is in grey color and I can't modify or disable.

I have a Eee 1201 HA

No solution until now

It has been defined as a user-related problem. Options I received:

1) receive back the netbook (problem unsolved) after paying 35 euro
2) don't get back the netbook back without any costs
3) repclace the hard disk (221 euro)

Netbook has been bought a half year ago. It did cost 300 euro.

Assuming it's a hard drive password rather than BIOS password, you could always try something like this to remove it. http://www.hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/ never used it myself though.

If you already know the hard drive password, this is how you remove the password. When you turn on the netbook, press the button to enter Setup. Then it will ask for the hard drive password: (Press to switch to Master Password) So, press the key. Then it will say: Hard Disk locked, enter master password: (Press to skip) So, press the key again. It will say: Skipped.. Hard Disk is still locked! WARNING: Continue booting with ... some OS. Hit ENTER to continue... So hit the ENTER key. The netbook will open the BIOS. Arrow over to Security and you will see that the hard drive password lines are now blue and accessible. When you select the line you want, hit ENTER and it will ask you for the password. You need to enter the hard drive password then hit ENTER. Then it will ask you for a password again, hit ENTER on the empty box to disable the password. The second password box pops up in case you want to change the password. The reason that the password box was grey out before is because you had already unlocked the hard drive and the hard drive was, "in use." Happy Computing

If you already know the hard drive password, this is how you remove the password.

When you turn on the netbook, press the <F2> button to enter Setup.  Then it will ask for the hard drive password:

(Press <ESC> to switch to Master Password)

So, press the <ESC> key.

Then it will say:

Hard Disk locked, enter master password:

(Press <ESC> to skip)

So, press the <ESC> key again.

It will say:

Skipped..

The reason that the password box was grey out before is because you had already unlocked the hard drive and the hard drive was, "in use."

Happy Computing
