I recently upgraded to windows 7 and I have been having trouble updating my bios from 801 to 1102.  I do not have the Asus Update software, so I can not update that way (unless there is some place I can download it that I don't know of).  I have tried to use the EZ-Flash and a USB stick, but it searches for the USB, finds the USB then gets stuck when reading file 1005HA.ROM.  After about a minute or two, the led on the USB stick turns off and it doens't do anything.  I have the USB formatted to FAT32 and have tried having the file names 1005HA.ROM and 1005ha.rom, but had the same result.  If someone could help me get my bios updated so I can use the hotkey, SHE and touchpad drivers, I would be very thankful.

Go to http://support.asus.com/dowload and in the upper left of that page type "1005HA" in the model search box.

Next page:  Select the 1005HA from list of matches

Next page: Select Windows 7 as your OS

Next page:  Scroll down and find "utilities" section in the downloads and ge tthe Asus Update Utility (Release 10/20/2009 for Windows 7) and install.

Run the utility (make sure you are plugged in with your power adapter) and update your bios from the Internet and you'll be good to go.

Be aware - you'll need to uninstall the ACPI drivers after the update, and install the new "Hot Key" utility.  You may also need to uninstall Super Hybrid Engine, and get the new version for Windows 7 too.  Make sure you uninstall both the SHE and ACPI before installing the new versions or you'll get no joy.

Good luck,

It says it can't install the AsusUpdate because I need to install the ACPI Drivers,  but I don't know what that is or where to find them.

Same location - under the ATK heading - Hotkey utility

You shoudl uninstall the old ACPI drivers if you have them installed already, otherwise your fine.  Run either Setup.exe, or SilentInstall.bat whichever is in the archive.

When I install the Hotkey utility and restart it gives an error message that ASUSManagement failed to initialize and it still won't let me install ASUSUpdate because it says I am missing the ACPI Drivers.

Ok - I just ran thought this as part of rolling back my BIOS then updating back to the latest version.

If you have an older BIOS on Win 7, you'll need to make sure you have the ACPI drivers loaded and working.  If you are running Windows 7, load the ACPI driver listed for the 1005ha for Windows XP and be sure to set AsusSetup.exe to run in WinXP Service Pack 2 Compatibility.

After installing that, reboot and verify that your ACPI keys are working (FN + Function keys) for the various features.  Test using the Wifi button - if that works you are good.

Then make sure you have Asus Update installed.  This should be the version for Windows 7 from the 1005HA download page.

Then download and unzip the BIOS file you want to load (I used 1102).

Reboot again to make sure you have a fresh boot.

Finally, run Asus Update, and select "Update Bios from File" and browse to the 1102 ROM file that you unzipped just before the reboot.

Make sure you are plugged into the AC adapter before rebooting.

It should prompt you to reboot to install the new BIOS and you should see the BIOS loader.

After the loader is done it will tell you when to power off the machine - DO NOT power off until it tells you to do so.

When you reboot you'll get errors about the ACPI software.  Uninstall the ACPI then reboot.

After reboot, install the new Hotkey software.  Reboot.

Your FN hotkeys should work now.  You'll also want to install the new Super Hybrid Engine v. 2.09 which is designed to work with the new Hotkey utility and Windows 7.

That's what worked for me.

Hello,

I saw both of your posts. Same problem here. This might be a dumb question but will the bios be able to be upgraded to the latest version with xp loaded or does this process need to be performed no matter, if one is to go to windows 7? Cause that seems like it's a lot of work. So I thought that if I have an image of the xp home i could reimage it to that, do the bios update and then put an image of 7 back on.  What u think will that do the trick? Sounds like it might be a bit faster to do?!

Worked fine for me too.  Was stuck trying to get the BIOS updated and couldn't install the BIOS updater without the ACPI.  Installing the XP ACPI let me get the BIOS updater installed and the BIOS updated, and then I removed the ACPI.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I believe the reason why Microsoft made money it is that one single touch and everything is made by the pc. Other drivers installation, do nearly the same. I understand it is not the case of bios updating and I am not really capable to follow you all the way through. I am lost at this passage:
Run the utility (make sure you are plugged in with your power adapter) and update your bios from the Internet ???and you'll be good to go. ( I thought the downloaded package will do it. Why Internet? )
You'll need to uninstall the ACPI drivers ( How??)
install the new "Hot Key" utility. ( where do i get it?
to uninstall Super Hybrid Engine, and get the new version for Windows 7 too.  Make sure you uninstall both the SHE and ACPI before installing the new versions or you'll get no joy....
Is it worthwhile to go through all of this, considering I bought the netbook some days ago, or should I wait some months and find somebody able to go through your suggested step?
Thanks for the bother in answering
