Have done a successful clean installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my ASUS notebook computer.  It works perfectly.

Windows 7 contains the necessary drivers in itself.  You don’t need to install the drivers.  After the installation is completed, go to Windows Update to get the latest drivers.

As for the Windows 7 Utilities, such as the ATK_Hotkey, Splendid, Power 4 Gear and so on…, you can download them from the following support site.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=U80V

Everything works properly.  There is no problem at all.  I think that you can also install Windows 7 on your X59SL notebook computer successfully.

Enjoy!!

Go to Control Panel >> Sound.  Adjust the volume of microphone and be sure it is not muted.

Cheers!!

For anyone experiencing very low microphone results with Windows 7 the following worked for me:
First ensure you have the latest Realtek driver installed.
Open the Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sounds.
Click "Manage Audio Devices"
Click "Recording" at the top
Click "Properties"
Click "Levels"
You'll see two(2) sliders: Microphone and Microphone Boost.
Make sure Microphone is at 100%
Slide "Microphone Boost" all the way up (+30dB)
Click on OK
Try your mic now :) Adjust the Microphone boost as you see fit.
This solved the problem for me in Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit though I did back the Microphone Boost down to +25dB after testing it out.
Hope this helps!

Hi Willy,

Do you think, the 32bit and 64bit version can make a difference regarding the sound?

I installed the 32bit version and have the same problem as some other X59SL owner. I tried both audio driver, the Windows 7 and the Realtek too, but there is always a crackling and I can't use Skype because the micro is too quiet. (All settings are OK.)

Do you have some idea?

Other: I have installed the Windows7 for 3 days ago, but I guess, my laptop is slowlier than with Vista :(
