If you install the Windows 7 Beta, you will have 2 driver problems with this motherboard. I will explain how to make everything work for the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Beta.

These include:

1. Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 Ethernet
2. SM Bus Controller

Having no Ethernet is a big problem because you can't get to the internet to download any new drivers in the first place. Just make sure that you you download the "Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Driver V1.0.0.34 for Windows Vista 32bit&64bit.(WHQL)" before-hand. After Windows 7 Beta is installed, run the "\Atheros_PCI-EEthernet_V10027_V10034_XPVista\Atheros\setup.exe" file and not AsusSetup.exe. Even if you run the AsusSetup.exe in Vista Compatibity Mode, it doesn't seem to work correctly.

Next, for the SM Bus Controller, just download the "Intel(R) P45/ICH10R Chipset Software Installation Utility WHQL V9.0.0.1009 for Windows XP/Vista & 64bit XP/Vista". The setups for this will not run in Windows 7 Beta. Just go into the Windows 7 Beta Device Manager and manually click to update the driver, then browse to "\IntelP45ICH10R_Chipset_V9001009_XPVista\Chipset\Vista\" and let Windows 7 Beta find the driver.

Done! It works great! Take care! :)

You do realize that Windows 7 is just Vista with some tweaking done.  There is no new coding.  Windows 7 should be a service pack, not  a new reason for M$ to screw people again.

Hello Zeralith
Yea had the same issues when I loaded Windows 7 64 bit as a new install.  Thanks for the heads up with the Atheros and SM Bus Controller. Have you had any luck with getting the
Realtek HD Audio to work in Windows 7?  It seems to load the driver but when I go into device manager it only shows the Realtek HD Audio under Sound and nothing else.  With other machines I have built you would also get a list of the codecs that are also installed but with this nothing but the one line. I have not finished installing every thing yet so I do not know if the sound works or not as I have not hooked up speakers.

Thanks
Melmak

You do realize that your statements are provably false and that it makes you look like a moron?

Having problems with the Atheros LAN Drivers. They seem to work for a very short while, then i get a connection error with "can't contact Primary DNS".

Anything i need to do to get the drivers working solidly with Windows 7 64bit ??

Hello Steve
Have you followed what Zeralith said in the first post?
"Just make sure that you you download the "Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Driver V1.0.0.34 for Windows Vista 32bit&64bit.(WHQL)" before-hand. Even if you run the AsusSetup.exe in Vista Compatibity Mode, it doesn't seem to work correctly."
I have just installed Windows 7 on this motherboard a couple of days ago and I have no problems.  The other thing you can try is going into Device Manager and update the drivers manually by pointing them at the the above mentioned file.  I am writing this at work so I can not check to see but I think I remember that when I did a windows update that there was a update for the Atheros Lan.
Hope this helps
Melmak

Thanks Melmak

I followed those instructions
I still get a "Primary DNS not found". I've tried the 1.0.0.34 & the 1.0.0.40 drivers - net works for a short time then i get that message.
Could it have anything to do with the fact i have DNS Server disabled in Vista 64, which is what i'm switching from to test Windows 7 ?
