Does anyone know if it is possible to use bios 300 from the G1S in the G1Sn motherboard.

Asus changed my motherboard and the G1Sn 202 bios has the old 4GB memory conflict that the G1S had when using WinXP.

The same memory conflict exists on Linux with 4GB memory.

I've attempted to do that with my laptop. The bios update utility will just deny the bios and not even attempt to install it (which is probably a good thing).

PLEASE, ASUS, release a new version of the G1Sn BIOS with this issue fixed.....

Hideaki, pls send a request to tech support at http://member.asus.com/login.aspx?SLanguage=en-us as well.  Tech support doesn't read this space unfortunately.

They issued the 202 bios after they fixed the G1S bios and didn't include the fix into the G1Sn bios.  They aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Thanks

I just submitted a tech support form. I hope that if enough of us request it, we'll get it released....

I did too for the second time.  All they said was that they will post one if one becomes available.

I notice from this forum that the G1 series notebooks are appearing less and less being replaced with the new models.

Asus has way too many versions of notebooks out, they can't/don't support them properly.

I too have sent a request to tech for a bios upgrade. I thought that once kernel 2.6.28 came out it might fix our problem with the video high memory problem but alas it was a no go. We do need a bios upgrade!!

Thanks for sending the email to Asus.

Just for general information OpenSolaris 2008.11 does have the memory remapping built in the OS just like Vista.

Open Solaris has a very attractive Desktop UI.  It installs the Nvidia driver automatically.  The only problem I've had was to connect to wireless network using WPA.  It doesn't seem to accept my passkey.  Ubuntu connects to the wirless flawlessly by has the memory remapping problem.

I have read that ubuntu has a wiki that tells how to rework the kernel for the G1sn, but I would hate to have to do that every time that the kernel is updated. My flavor of linux is Sidux. I like been on the leading/cutting/bleeding edge with this distro that fits to my liking. I did get a reply from tech support that I have yet to make any sence out of, will try again and see if I can get a reply that makes sence.
