Hello I can't get a Huawei E160G USB modem to work with default Xandros on a 901. I bought it from 3 on a Pay-as-you-go tariff and it works fine with another XP laptop.
The modem is detected by the 901 when I plug it in, and ASUS Mobile Phone Tool pops up. When I click Setup, then APN Setup, and Select APN, I choose my location (Southwestern Europe, UK) and the only option is T-Mobile UK which doesn't work.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have a similar Problem but with a Sierra Compass 885 USB Modem. You and myself we should get in touch with either the mobile phone company from whom the usb modems were bought to obtain the relevant drivers and instalation instructions. Maybe Asus technical support or the producers of the usb modems might help too.

Hi, Do not use the mobile phone tool for E160! It will not work with Huawei.
Connect E160 to USB and when the mobile phone tool pops up, close both windows. Open network and add new network. Follow instructions and select Huawei E160 and network and operator. Save! Then select the new network and connect, input pin code when asked and you are on line in a few seconds.

Hi - thanks for your advice, when I select "Network", then "Create...", I get a list of Connection Types. I selected "GSM/3G (UMTS)/HSDPA" which I think is the right one, then "Select Hardware" is displayed but no Devices are listed, so I can't proceed. Any further help would be appreciated. Thanks Jon

Hi, i have exactly the same problem, with by the sounds of it the exact same seup.
901 with linux, Huawei 160g with 3.
Get to the select hardware window in the wizard but the hardware isn't listed! Very frustrating, I hear the E220 is much easier to get working. Trying desperately to find a solution.
Cheers Steve

Quick Update,
I'm writing this from my 3 connection :-)
All i did was restart the machine with the USB device plugged in and the device was visible in the hardware list. After that just choose the region and the network and the default settings were fine.
Good Luck.
Steve

Hi Steve - glad you've got your connection working. When you started the 901 with the Huawei plugged into the USB, did you just follow the steps I listed i.e: select "Network", then "Create...", you get a list of Connection Types. you selected "GSM/3G (UMTS)/HSDPA" then the Huawei E160G appears in the "Select Hardware" list? Thanks Jon

I've tried this dozens of times and the E160G USB Modem is never seen!!
I installed XP on my 901 and the moden worked perfectly - I've now gone back to Xandros and nothing!

Does anyone from Asus technical support monitor these issues? If so, could I request a response to the question: How can I get a Huawei E160G to work with my 901 running factory default Xandros. Thankyou. Jon

ASUS technical support did respond with a few suggestions for getting the Huawei E160G working with Xandros, but in the end the reply was:
I'm afraid aforementioned modem is incompatible with your system: http://wiki.eeeuser.com/hardware:eee_un_supported_devices
I think I might see if Ubuntu 8.10 works.
