This documents the video trouble with an Asus Z92T laptop.

VIDEO: Nvidia GeForce Go 7600.
RAM: 3GB PC2-5300
DRIVE: 80GB
WIRELESS: Intel 2915ABG
OS: Windows XP

I.    Internal LCD

    * BIOS Post: Disk activity, gray LCD screen (dim light, no text or graphics
         visible).
    * Pressing F8 for Windows Menu: LCD still gray.
    * OS Boot: All systems go, LCD still gray until after Windows logo, then screen
goes black (no dim gray or anything).

II.    Internal LCD and Remote Desktop via IP Address

    * BIOS Post: Disk activity, gray LCD screen (dim light, no text or graphics
         visible).
    * OS Boot: All systems go, LCD still gray until after Windows logo, then screen
goes black (no dim gray or anything).
    * Remote Access: Everything A.O.K. Windows has booted completely and
         successfully.  All video O.K.

III.    Internal LCD with External VGA

    * BIOS Post: Disk activity, gray LCD screen (dim light, no text or graphics
         visible).
    * Pressing F8 for Windows Menu: The menu shows up on the external VGA
         monitor, not on the LCD.
    * OS Boot_Normal: All systems go, LCD still gray until after Windows logo, then
screen goes black (no dim gray or anything).
    * OS Boot_Safe: All systems go, video on LCD but it's very low-res VGA (maybe
         8-color, 640x480).

IV.    External VGA

    * BIOS Post: Disk activity, gray LCD screen (dim light, no text or graphics
         visible).
    * Pressing F8 for Windows Menu: The menu shows up on the external VGA
         monitor.
    * OS Boot_Normal: All systems go, no video on external VGA.
    * OS Boot_Safe: All systems go, video on external VGA but it's very low-res
         VGA (maybe 8-color, 640x480).

V.    External DVI-D

    * Nothing ever.

None of this changes on letting laptop set for a few hours off (cooling doesn't matter).  The behavior is not intermittent.  CPU fan is running.
