I have been troubleshooting an issue with my computer randomly waking from Sleep. I am running Vista x64. I have reverted my OS to a "Full PC Backup" that I made prior to experiencing this isssue, so I don't believe Windows is the cause. I ran powercfg.exe to configure and verify that the only device that can wake computer from sleep is the keyboard. I cannot recall the exact time when this started to happen, so I cannot say what may have changed.
The one thing I am now suspicious of is the motherboard. Windows is reporting that the RTC is waking a computer. The event causing the wake is "Timer Expired". I know the P5E3 Premium can be configured to wake the computer using the RTC and a configured timer, however, this setting has always been disabled BIOS --> APM menu. The firmware verison that I was running is 0401. I just upgraded it to 0402 today and have yet to see if it resolves it.

Has anyone else experience this behavior with their P5E3 Premium?

My computer seems to be consistently waking at 8:00 AM now, which makes a little more sense. This issue is really annoying me. I submitted a support ticket to Asus on the issue but have not heard anything yet.

Try erasing CMOS RTC RAM. This often resolves bizarre issues. Also, if by sleep you mean S3 or S4 in Windows then check the task scheduler to see if there isn't some oddball entry made by some wayward application.

Thanks. Task scheduler was the one of the first things I checked. I'll try clearing the BIOS. I assume that erarses the RTC, right?

I found the jumper to clear the RTC and followed the instructions in the manual. I have a feeling that this will fix it. Guess I will find out tomorrow morning.

Computer woke again at 8:00AM and Windows is still reporting that it is the RTC timer. I am going to try clearing the RTC RAM again.

C:\powercfg -lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
  Wake Source Count - 1
  Wake Source [0]
    Type: Fixed Feature
    Timer Expired (RTC)

Are there any events in your system, application, or security logs at or around 8:00am?
