In the spirit of krw's post:
If you have a stable working system, please post your information to this thread. Be as detailed as possible (CPU/RAM/GPU type & configuration) so that newcomers to this board have a starting point to work from. If you update your BIOS or change a setting that makes your system more stable, please edit your original post and use the strikeout (ie. strikeout) to show the changes you made. This should help to show us a history and also keep the thread as short as possible.
You may ask what exactly is stable? In my case, six+ hours of Prime95 with zero errors and Everest's stress tests, is to me, about as stable as it gets. My max CPU temp was 54 C, idle is 34 C.
These are my current stable settings: Last update 3/13/08 *Changes are in bold.
OS: Vista 32 SP1, XP 32 SP3 BIOS: 0802 0903 1001 CPU: E6850 @ 3.6 GHz, FSB (QDR) @ 1599 MHz RAM: 2 x 1 GB OCZ2N10662GK @ 1066 MHz Slots: A1 & B1 GPU: EVGA 512-P3-N802-A1 8800GT 512M (G92) 650MHz DRIVERS: Chipset: 9.46 Video: 169.32 169.44 from EVGA

This should give us a baseline for the different CPU/RAM/GPU combinations that are currently stable...
If you have not installed Vista SP1 and/or XP SP3 I recommend both!
Flashed to BIOS 0903, still no real ESA support, still no voltage actuals on the Overvoltage page. At least this time when I flashed, I didn't have to reset from defaults!
So far no issues noted with the 1001 BIOS. Still no ESA support to
speak of, the Nvidia System Monitor and Control Panel cannot read anything correctly from
the motherboard.
Would it be at all possible for the engineers at Asus and Nvidia to
get together and actually deliver on what this motherboard is supposed
to be capable of!!!
At this point I'm basically waiting for the 790i chipset boards to be
released, and no, it will not be an Asus motherboard that the build
will be based on!!!

* After working fine for 3 days, it wouldn't get past post tonight - it took 3 attempts. Just wondered if it was due to lowering the memory voltage, so have returned it to what it was set up previously.
9 March 2008 - Put Memory over voltage back to what Corsair recommend (2.110V) and she seems rock solid with 0903 BIOS. No BSOD or lock ups. I've upped my reliability rating to 98%. She's running well.
20th March 2008 - Updated BIOS to version 1001 - No settings altered
25th March 2008 - Switched memory from A1/B1 ro A2/B2 after experiencing a problem with video coruption. Thanks to a suggestion on these forums. This, after a few initial tests does seem to have solved the issue.
11th May 2008 - After relentless trials and tests, I still had video coruption problems from time to time. At last, I found a fix. I installed the latest nforce drivers dated 18th March 2008. These seem to have resolved all my problems.
22 May 2008 - I still very occasionally occassionally have video corruption especially when encoding video in Movie Maker. The nForce drivers helped but wasn't a total cure.
21 June 2008 - Updated to beta BIOS 1104. So far so good. I've not beenable to replicate the video corruption problem, so maybe this time it has been fixed for good.
6 August 2008 - Updated BIOS to version 1106
4th December 2008 - I have a perfect computer. I have not had a problem since updating the BIOS in August. I've not had any BSD and it has posted perfectly every time. I've had no crashes or video corruption. At last, I am very happy with it's performance and reliability.

(1) Passes 20-pass max stress run of IntelBurnTest successfully at 3.67 GHz (VCore 1.37500 - 1.264 idle/1.232 load) and 3.5 GHz (VCore Auto - 1.216 idle/1.200 load); even went 10.5 hours of Prime95 at 3.83 GHz. But something about this POS motherboard (or maybe a card) just doesn't accept the cpu oc'd even at 3.17 GHz! Finally don't care anymore. (5/12/09)
(2) I have found GPU PhysX is definitely a must for Mirror's Edge (one of the first games to extensively integrate PhysX), it is great on the GPU but is simply unplayable on the CPU. On the other hand, CUDA support in TMPGEnc 4 Xpress actually makes encodings take longer than with CUDA off. So the PhysX stuff is highly optimized but CUDA seems to have too much overhead, at least with my card model.
(3) Seems no true explanation of the NVIDIA GPU Ex setting can be found anywhere! Here's what I could find:
- From old ForceWare release notes: "This is a performance optimization for nForce motherboards." Great, thanks nvidia, that says a frickin lot!
- A reputable review site states: "The NVIDIA GPU Ex option enables a chipset specific option that controls automatic performance tuning between the chipset and specific NVIDIA graphics cards that support the NVIDIA GPU Ex feature." But it doesn't explain in what way at all!
- A forum poster states: "This enables an driver level overclock of an nvidia card, leave it to disabled for optimal performance and set the attainable oc manually." I believe this is false.
- A forum poster states: "it speeds up the GPU when heavier apps (games) start becoming more demanding." I doubt this one too.
- A forum poster states: "turn it off as it can cause a conflict with certain chipsets and actually cause slowdown." Well, maybe, but no explanation.
- A forum poster states: "Disable that, that is only for Quadro video cards." So how would he know if nothing else can be found about it?
- From an actual motherboard manual (AN9 32X): "Stands for “GPU Extra Performance”. Enable this item to work for certain NVIDIA SLI graphics cards with certain driver version, but only minor performance will be expected." Well, that still doesn't disclose what it actually does!
The general consensus is the NVIDIA GPU Ex setting potentially does more harm than good. A test site found it to add barely 1 FPS anyway, but maybe it improves the "feel" in games because of increased bus throughput or whatever. My experience with this setting is that it does seem to sometimes cause trouble in games that otherwise never happens when it is disabled, but then again can never be sure it is really the reason!
(4) The SLI-Ready Memory setting (on Expert -- the CPUOC ones are useless) simply sets timings and voltage from the EPP profile in SLI-Ready compatible ram modules. However, with the latest bios it is disabled when using more than 2 modules, but you can always set the timings (AND voltage!) manually and get the 100% same effect. At the same MHz, I have compared all memory timings when set by EPP vs. when disabled and having put in the 4 main timings manually, and both ways come out exactly the same for all of the other timings.

WinVista64 running stable with Prime95 (2 hour run) and numerous games played (Crysis, Oblivian). Up for over two days without any issues. CPU idle temp 42-44C and 50-60C under heavy load (Prime95 testung). Tested with Everest Ulitmate v 4.20
I have noticed that even though I set the CPU voltage to 1.25 it reads 1.18 in everest and CPU-ID. I believe the voltage issues with the board are the most signifcant problem people face. However, my system seems rock solid with the above settings.

Got my board to run rock solid and my memory to finally run stable at 1066mhz (at least for now) with some small changes in the setup. The key was to set the ram in the A2B2-slots (seems like the dualchan in A1B1 is broken) and setting the fsb, timings and voltage manually to the settings recommended by the manufacturer. (found my settings at http://www.kingston.com) Seems like the main problem with this board is the automatic control of mem and voltages.
Anyways, here is the settings that works for me. :)
