i have an HP A1642X Pavillion Desktop. It came with the ASUS P5BW-LA motherboard. when i go to this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00783637&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3304173
it tells me everything about my motherboard i can see that. it says it supports dual core technology the E6XX0 series and 775 socket. now i have TWO questions. can it support the Q6600 which is the same SOCKET 775 and the same FSB 1066MHZ.
my second question is on the motherboard specifications page it says my FSB can go up to 1066MHZ but as all of you know intel has new cpus such as the e6750 and the e6850 which have 1333MHZ as their FSB.
is there somehow i can get an update for my bios so i can use the e6750 and the e6850 or will the bios read the cpu's clock speed but bring down the FSB? i would really like to use cpus that have the new 1333mhz FSB or i would like to get a quad core but this motherboard i really cant find stuff on it. can you guys pleaseeeeeee help me out?

| i don't know about P5BW-LA but P5B supports Q6600, as for 1333FSB CPU's they will work but with overclocked FSB, and you have to put 6400 RAM in 5300 mode in order to boot, for example i have E6420 CPU and if i want to use 50% overclocking i have to put 800MHZ RAM in 533MHZ in BIOS, so when i put 400X8 CPU frequency or 3.2GHZ RAM this will automaticly increase RAM frequency in BIOS setings to 800MHZ anyway, as for those CPU's they work fine with latest BIOS, as for E6750 overclocking you will be able to overclock with DDR2 6400 RAM till 1600FSB without overclocking RAM frequency, but if you use better DDR 2 RAM it will be much higher than that

| Most likely not. But I do not know from experience. You could try that then let us know if it works.

Timu, yes that Mobo WILL support a quad core Q6600, but nothing higher then that.I know that bec i am using a comp with the same mobo and it has the core2quad Q6600 CPU in it and its REALLY fast. Hopefully you have Vista because XP will not support a quad-core CPU (XP will only "see" 2 cores of the 4). the mobo is a OEM model and isnt supported by Asus, sadly.
