Hi I have problem with HD Audio integrated on P5K-SE,
Audio (Realtek 883)
sometimes works and sometime doesn't.
In every third or second reboot audio just doesn't work, and audio device is not found at all (not only audio driver!).

When the audio is working, than suddenly without any reason, computer start recognized plug in and out headphones from front panel (but nothing is un/plugged!!). Or start recognized plug in / out back panel repros ?! It is like i was plug in /out repeatedly 20 times one after other.

Audio device never start after turning on/off computer. I always had to reboot after turn it on. After the audio (realtek) is recognized and driver loaded.

But mow it just start working after 15 - 20 Reboots !!! But i never know why this time, what is different?!

Mobo is just new (1 month), It has this weird behavior from beginning.

What I have tried jet:
- reinstall OS - it helps temporary after 2-3 days it back again
- install audio driver first after that everything all (new driver from Asus and after that i tried driver from realtek)
- reset CMOS (Bios) - it helps temporary - after 20-30 reboot it back again. I tried reset CMOS again but it didn't help anymore.
- uninstall and reinstall KB888111
- completely reinstall windows again, and again
- update Bios
- many bios configurations

I am so sad nothing help.
I reinstall all drivers, my WinXP (SP2) is up to date.
Has anyone suggestion what is going on?

It seems that is some sort of conflict problem between HW or SW, but i have tried reinstall OS. But than it happens again and agian.

Anyone can help?

Thanks

I just set up my pc with this motherboard. Am hearing the static noise. Interesting this is this static noise is moving in tandem with the system loading.

Imagine if you load an application, you will hear the static noise bigger and changing in frequency.

It sounds like a crosstalk issue on the motherboard design.

I am having a problem with the onboard Realtek HD audio , I cannot get it to work at all. The only time I hear any audio is when I run the 3d demo, Windows sounds do not work either. Hardware manager says no audio device installed, each time I reboot it tells me that new pci hardware is found but it can never find any drivers to load even when pointed at what I believe is the correct directory on the cd.I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek driver also the KB 888111 (or something similar update). I have looked on the Realtek website and the current driver is the one on the cd, other forums have people with similar problems but don't seem to have a fix that works. I am using Windows XP pro (32 bit) with SP2 no other updates yet, cpu is Intel E8400 with 2 Gig of Corsair DDR2 6400 memory, motherboard is P5 K SE, the system boots up without any problem I just cannot get the onboard sound to work. I have also re installed the OS as I thought SP3 was causing but no joy anyone got the answer please.

Hello I had the same problem I had to reload the sound drivers every day, in order to get the static noise out of my HD audio, and this is what I found out how to fix it, come to find out it was my Video card I had a 8600 Geforce video card I replace that card with a 8800 768 meg video card that you had to use two seprate 12 volts plug in and it works fine..

I never have any problems with my audio sound  since and I have not had  to reload my audio drivers, so what that is telling me is the motherboard does like the video card getting the power  from the PCI slot. I hope this helps you it was a BIG PAIN in the Neck when I had to reload the drivers from the motherboard disk every day.

I bought the P5K-SE board in January of this year and have never been able to load the RealTek High Definition audio drivers and consequently, nothing can be adjusted in the BIOS.
It discards any settings selected and requests loading the setup defaults from F2.
It worked satisfactorily  for about two hours without the HD drivers and then the problems started.

The base cause of the problem is allegedly a 'time bomb' maliciously written into Realtek's on-board audio chip which  renders the chip dysfunctional after 2005.  The industry knows about this but avoids the question and is hoping that it might go away..
I took my PC back to the retailer of the mobo, they couldn't fix it other than install a cheap Creative 32 bit sound card.  This gives analogue sound but does not help with the  BIOS setup issue.
Changing to the latest BIOS was smooth with Q-Flash, but that fixed nothing.
I have loaded the Microsoft Hotfix , K888111, tried the latest RealTek drivers (which are the original ones) and have attempted get some sense out of the manufacturer to no avail.
I just don't have time to fool around like this, I "upgraded" my PC to become more productive, not set myself a hopeless task that  ASUS engineers should in all conscience, be looking at.
I feel both companies have left their respective supporters for dead and now expect us to muddle through to discover a fix on these forums.
I've looked closely at this problem and now believe I have found a sure-fire fix.
I'll buy a Gigabyte tomorrow and leave this BS behind.
Apparently, silence is golden at ASUS and Realtek, .

Good luck to everyone in your quest to find the answer.
Blue Ray anyone?

Intel Q6600, BFG 8800 512mb, 2Gb 1066 DDR2, Thermaltake 460W,  Gigabyte board tomorrow, MS XP Pro 32, SP2, 3200 WD main, 3200 WD storage. 8" Thermaltake CPU blue fan..

Am having problems with my Realtek HD Audio as well. At first OS (WinXP pro sp2) installation, I could play sound files with iTunes, VLC player, etc but not through Windows Media Player. The computer kept saying I have a problem with my sound device. Even in the windows control panel it showed no devices detected. The Realtek Control Panel, on the other hand, could play the 3d demo sounds perfectly also.
I then reformatted my computer in the hopes of getting the audio to work but this time iTunes and all other players aren't playing any sound files at all. Only the Realtek control panel plays the 3d demo sound well.
This is so crappy and frustrating. Uggh!!!

<UPDATE FROM ORGINAL POST>   27/05/2008
After much research, I found a solution to the problem. My HD audio now works perfectly well. It's a case of a software issue rather than a hardware issue. Please follow the link below for the solution :) Enjoy !

I've used ASUS motherboards for about 15 years.
However in the last few years I think ASUS has gone downhill.
So for the first time I'll be moving to Gigabyte.
