I am having MAJOR problems with the new 680i chipset I just purchased the p5n-32-e from Asus...

Tons of random reboots, windows is completely unstable! REBOOTING each time I try to install or use an application TO one partition from another vise-versa...

If i'm simply installing things FROM C:\ drive unto C:\ drive and using C:\ drive, thus far it seems stable, but soon as I try to install from E:\ -> C:\ or C:\ -> E:\ I have REBOOTING... Now my windows is giving me a blue-screen reboot cycle error, and I need to re-format... I can no longer boot up.

My setup

P5N-32-E
OCZ gold 6400 DDR2 (2gigs) Dual channel @DDR 800 5/5/5/12
2 Seagate Barracuda 10 320GIG SATA on Sata slots 1/2 (NON-RAID)
2 Hitachi 500GIG SATA on sata-slots 3/4 (Raid 1)
1 LG dvd-writer on IDE1 MASTER

I have formatted the Seagate Barracudas using partition Magic... They are brand new drives... My primary partition is NTFS /w 4k clusters, some of the other logical partitions have 32k clusters.

** I have read that other 590 boards had major problems with the SATA controller especially if some of the drives used RAID and others didn't.

I need this resolved ASAP. I have a lot of work to get done, and simply can not afford the time or expense to mess with this, I have spent plenty of money as is.

- Is there a bios or firmware udpate I need? I havn't found any.
- Is it cluster/partition sensitive?
- Is it simply the nvidia sata controller issue, and do I need to purchase a secondary SATA/RAID PCI controller so that I don't have 4 SATA drives running off the mainboard SATA controller and thus causing this?

I need help ASAP, does anyone have ANY idea how to fix this, or has anyone had a similar issue?? Running SATA HDD's 2 SATA 2 RAID.... this will be greatly appreciated. thank you!

chlywly I have read a lot of posts lateley about P5N series mother boards having
boot problems or randomley restarting.Sometimes locking up often.
Most of the time the people are using 2 vidio cards sometimes 7900 series.
Lots of memory and similar storage devices to yours. Of course the processor and
hopefuly a powerful cooling system.
They are allways trying to run all this off of little power suplies like 550 or 600 wat
power suplies. Reebooting, locking up and wierd stuf hapening in Windows are
all symptoms of low power. Eventualy the power suply just stops working.
These boards need to have a dedicated 8 pin conector for the 12V  not a 4 pin
with an adapter and a 24 pin main conector.
Finde a big power suply 750 wat or higher and try that. Dont be afraid your system
will just take the power it needs to run. If your power suply is to small the system will
not get enoufgh power and become hot and go unstable. It may even be damaged.
I learn't this through personal experience. Fortunateley my computers survived
Remember all your drives draw power even when they are not in use.
I hope this helps. Nice system by the way.

These are all issues that have been seen on other nvidia chipset boards. It doesn't look like any of the ASUS moderators/techs read this... or any other forums dealing with the 680i chip set. I assure you the nvidia chipset is the root of most of these problems.

Flash your BIOS from a floppy, the old fashion way. Pure DOS

Check the voltage on your mem and adjust accordingly... I'm not sure but I think the 680i is default to 1.9v, and alot of DDR2 mem is 2.0 or 2.1.

You should also visit the eVGA forums and monitor them closely, there mods & tech reply to most every issue.

post back!

Like hagatha said, be sure to check/ manually set memory voltage in BIOS according to OCZ spec., there are MANY other (non-Asus) forum postings that note default memory voltages are too low for this any other mobos.  For example see www.XtremeSystems.com forums.

I can hardly wait until I get a P5N32-E SLI board!
