Hi.

Ive bought this new X5DIJ laptop. I decided to install and use win xp on it.
I succeeded in installing xp and all drivers except the graphics card driver. That means, it installs the driver just fine (downloaded the newest driver), but after the reboot it goes from the default windows resolution (1024) to 640 and 4 bit colors. When i try to change resolution, i can choose from a hole bunch of resolutions, but it doesent matter which i choose, it just goes back to the 640 4bit resolution.

I installed Vista, and as default vista couldnt recognize the gfx driver either (from the driver cd), but when i downloaded the driver it works fine.

Have you any idea how i can make the graphics driver to work under xp?

Thank you very much!

Kind regards,
Lars

Try to update the Intel graphics driver.  It may be helpful to solve the problem.

I too have that problem. It seems after installing the XP driver the resolution is locked at 640 by 480 and the color depth to 4 bit. Obviously the graphics card itself is not defective as the card works perfectly in vista. The driver is not switching the mode properly. There is need of support from an Asus engineer for the exact problem to be found.

I filled the form for the technical inquiry link here :
http://support.asus.com/techserv/techserv.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Btw the X5DIJ is probably available only with Asus Germany and very few people will switch to XP and actually face this problem. So I wonder whether they will ever solve this.

I am sure we can pinpoint the problem if we get a bit more technical help. Else we have to try with the Intel forums.

Ive also filled in the that inquiry, but asus just rejected it with:
"Dear Valued ASUS Customer!

Your do not have a Windows XP license from Asus, which is why we cannot support Windows XP on your notebook."

Very kind of them.

But i wonder why they have a gfx driver for xp if it doesent work?

I could solve it by flashing BIOS.
