I liked your production before I have bought the laptop x50n. Any Linux the distribution kit on it is not established well because in bios there is no support acpi. Unless so it is difficult to make support and Linux users? Or you only on microsoft work? The similar situation costs and with parent payments for stationary computers. Why such discrimination? I, the director of the centre of technical support, should go itself to the clients and will apologise for you? At me 273 stationary computers collected on the basis of yours matheboard with established OS Ubuntu. Why I should decompile bios and programing it so that it worked? It is your problem! It should be a shame to you with your work. Make support linux users!
For those who faced problems of installation of drivers and adjustment under Ubuntu or another Linux, is devoted... After operating system installation it is done: 1. We adjust the Internet
2. We update system sudo apt-get update
3. System => parametres => external a kind => visual effects and also we choose exstra Asks to establish driver Nvidia for fast cards => we agree
4. Install: sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
5. We establish a sound: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base In the end of the opened file it is added: options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo
6. restart. Now there is a sound
7. We adjust WIFI wget http://snapshots.madwifi.org/special/madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007.tar.gz tar xfz madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007.tar.gz cd madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007 sudo make install sudo modprobe ath_pci
8. sudo aptitude install wifi-radar
9. The problem with support 3D is solved: It is necessary to establish python-OpenGL and glx from under sinaptic, for convenience it is possible also nvidia X server setings to put.
10. That did not hang at reboot, because of not possibilities to switch off ACPI in bios, we do the following: sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
We search for a line: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.[bla-bla-bla] quiet splash
Also we add in the end of a line: all_generic_ide
Now your laptop will not hang at reboot and deenergizing!

Still it would be desirable to tell that support only to one OS will lead to recession of sales of your production because by 2010 in Russia transition with Windows on Linux is planned.
At this forum there is a technical support or not?
Make please support Linux of users.

I installed ubuntu 8.10 32 bit I did all the things mentioned above.
I encounter the next problems: The laptop will shutdown now properly, but not restart. When I plug in my earphones, sound is still produces through the speakers. It is also hard to get skype to work. What devices do you use succesfulle in the sound preferences?? I cant get the capture to work...

Yes, with version 8.10, it happened the same to me. Is not Asus fault, is just an uncatched exception on ubuntu. Try installing the new version 9.04, is that fixed. Also, my Bios got bugged with trying the manual decompression....
