I'm having the same problem. I tried the Function key combination commands and they aren't working. I didn't notice any specific update for the Keyboard's backlight. What else can I do?

I just purchased the G53J and was having issues as well. I went to the Asus website and downloaded "ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities" for the G53J series and afterwards my Fn+"keys" were working again. I think i must have uninstalled it somehow while i was trying to cleanup the random programs I didn't think i needed. I hope this works for those who are having problems with their Function key.

I purchased a G73S and after some updates this happened to me also.

The solution Papayarade posted worked for me:
1.- Download ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities
2.- Click repair. Reboot.
3.- It didn't work the first time so I repaired again by running the .msi file from the downloaded package and then it worked!

Great solution!

I have the G73SW laptop and while it performs great, I have not been able to fully utilize it.  Most of the games I play are on Steam.  The problem is, whenever I install Steam, the keyboard backlight stops functioning.  I can reinstall the drivers and that does not seem to help.  The only thing that works is to perform a system restore prior to the installation of Steam.  I should not have to sacrifice that functionality just to play games on this computer.  Any suggestions?
