I have the same issue with my 3TB Seagate HDD. My firmware is 1.40N and the HDD is formated as a single partition with GPT. Please help me to make the 3TB work with the player. By the way, what is the AMP (r8) firmware or software??? Thanks.

AMP (r8) is 3rd party firmware that was original based upon the Oplay HD2 firmware. There is also a Playon skin.

In my opinion it is far superior to the stock official firmware.

Try your 3TB HDD with that firmware.

Some things to know first.

1) To load AMP (r8) firmware you need to use the "Emergency Recovery Method" (You can safely go back and forth from stock to 3rd party firmware with this method)
2) In order to use the "Emergency Recovery Method" your Oplay must have a bootcode of 18 or higher (23). To check your bootcode version, go to the Home screen and press Stop then Play on the remote. (the last 2 numbers in the bootcode  line is the version)

Emergency Recovery Method:

1) Place install.img on USB Stick (alone - no other files)
2) Plug stick into USB port on Oplay
3) Press and hold Reset Button with small object (located between the 2 side USB ports)
4) While still holding reset button, unplug power from rear of unit for 5 seconds
5) Reconnect power and release reset button.

Firmware will now load!

I would recommend trying AMP (R8) HD2 Blue Screen version

Thanks Poker, for the detailed instructions. How do you upgrade the bootcode? My TV is NTSC, can you please point me to the right tool to upgrade the bootcode? Thanks, Weimin

Is there any risk to upgrade the bootcode? From previous post, I saw the zip of HDP_R3_FW_121PAL_BOOTCODE_23.zip. Is it also good for NTSC TV? Any solutions, concerns, and advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and waiting for your reply...

The bootcode itself makes no difference for NTSC or PAL. The bootcode upgrade contains PAL firmware, so if your TV is not both NTSC/PAL compatible you may have a black screen after loading the upgrade (I have a Panasonic Viera and its works with both. Friends have Samsungs and they get a black screen with PAL). When you are sure it is fully upgraded (you only have a blue power light on if you get no picture on your screen) simply load a NTSC firmware via the Emergency Recovery (reset) method. (note the AMP (r8) is both NTSC and PAL, there is not 2 versions)

Additional note: After upgrading the bootcode and using the Recovery Method to load firmware you may not see anything on your screen when installing firmware (the blue background and progress bar). Expect to see a blue power light and a red storage light on the Oplay, after about 3 minutes you will see the red storage light start to blink (this indicates firmware is loading) and when complete the firmware will boot up as usual.

Im sure there is a small risk to your unit in the upgrade. I've done 5 of them from bootcode 17 to 23 and never had an issue. The only risk I see is prematurely powering off the unit before the upgrade completes. (It may take 5+ minutes to upgrade).

There are 2 methods to load the bootcode upgrade firmware.
1) The standard way through the menu. (you will get the "Image not for this board" message. Read here)
2) Soft reset which involves Telnet to the unit from a PC over a LAN connection. Read here

Thanks for your quick reply. So, the bootcode upgrade would work for both PAL and NTSC TVs, but during upgrading if the TV is only compatible with NTSC, the screen would be black, but it would still upgrade the bootcode, right? Once it is done, update the firmware again with AMP 8, correct? Please confirm. Thanks.

Correct. The bootcode upgrade comes "packed" with a PAL firmware, but the bootcode itself does not reflect PAL or NTSC only the firmware version does. So if you can't see the screen it is only temporary until you load a NTSC factory firmware or AMP (r8).

The bootcode is like the BIOS of a PC and the firmware is the Operating System, like Windows is to a PC.

Thanks for your detailed explanation on bootcode and firmware. I checked my bootcode and it is 18, so, I don't need to upgrade the bootcode. But after I updated to th AMP r8 - a totally different OS and UI, the player still don't see the 3TB Seagate HDD with GPT formated. I tested with my 1TB and 2TB HDD, they are all ok. I connect the HDDs with eSATA (all my TB HDDs are internal SATA drives). Anything else I should do? Please help!

There must be driver compatibility issues. I can 100% confirm that my 3TB WD "Elements" HDD works with my R1 running AMP (r8).

That being said the HDP-R1 is old and not really ideal for modern Home Theater, if you are soon looking to upgrade to a better media player I would highly recommend the Pivos Aios. For $99 bucks it's great, accepts internal HDD, USB 3.0 PC Link, Gigabit LAN, DTS-HD Master passthrough, BluRay Menu support (Non Java based) etc.

That is now my main (living room) set-up and my Oplays are in the bedrooms.
