There IS an actual guide, available in the download section of Asus support site, next to the user's manual... However, a more complete guide is available in the archive containing the 1.24 firmware version. |
Also, there's a 3/12/2010 updated one at: ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/asus/Digital_Media_Player/HDP-R1/Manual/Firmware_update_Guide.pdf

| The steps in the guide doesn't work, at least for me. The reset button changes nothing. I've tried a firmware reload (1.21P) from a just formatted usb pendrive and.... nothing, always the Asus logo. The guide should include what to do in these cases (if someone in Asustek knows about it).

It would be EXTREMELY HELPFUL if instructions and/or release notes are provided on how to use the new features!!!

Can I downgrade from 1.24 to 1.21? Are there any problems? A possible brick?

Yes, I just downgraded from 1.24N to 1.21N. No problems - just better.

Dear Totoriko: Before you upgrade the firmware, you could download "firmware upgradting documents " from support site. It may help to reduce the problems you meet when upgrading firmware. The most common situation is that when you are updgrading firmware, you trun off the power accidentally ,your process would be failed. Therefore, you should Press "Reset " button, and come back to the default situtaion, then you could upgrade the firmware successfully.
Anyway, thanks for your feedbacks!

Penny, what is the point of this thread if: 1. There is no actual guide that you are providing 2. You are not answering our questions to firmware update problems

Penny, I can find the guides but there are no firmware files for any OS except for Linux. I'm reluctant to switch to Linus just to upgrade the firmware on my O! Player so please tell me how to get files for a Windows OS. Thanks.

Use for firmware update only a good USB stick which has no problem in his life(kind of :cant be stoped with safe remove from windows, errors of any kind, etc.) or a new one.I used one that give me some problems in time, and I bricked the O!player on a four time update.

Exact same problem here.
Nothing but asus logo.
I did an update before but this 1.24 fails. Left it for ages with no power down.
Reset doesn't work.
Clean pen drive.
Quite annoyed.
