| I just purchased this PC on the 26th and have read thru this forum, is this a bad system? I am having problems installing adobe professional as it tells me there is an error and will not activate the adobe print. Now I have a skdaemon can't start keyboard hook. Now it is telling me it is having resolution issues. I am concerned as I use this for business but I feel as tho I should return it within the 14 day period as it is an unstable system. Looking for any feedback you can offer

If you use it for business, I'd return it.
I'm not having as many problems as you, but my video card is fried, and i'm very upset about it. You can try to return it for a new one and see if that fixes it, but if it doesn't work, i'd return it.

Its a good system and a good graphics card. With any new os, sometimes when they boot up for the 1st time, its not complete. Thats happened with me with a number of hp desktops. this one isn't any different. Mine was missing a number of drivers and refused to open movie dvds. I used the supplied disks and did a fresh install. problem solved. For the dvd problems, programs not running, errors with the fan speed, install the new bios update. That fixes 99% of the issues that I've read here.

I agree with Adams that updating the bios will solve many problems. That said, I also recommend exchanging the computer for another (especially if you are using it for your livelihood). If you are going to invest in tools for your occupation, get yourself a real workstation and not a consumer entry-level "gaming" computer. The low-cost/good-value attracted most of us to this model, but it will be more headache for you in the long-run.

In my 10 years in and out of the IT/tech support/data forensics field one of the worst parts of the job is when you have to tell a panicked and desperate small business owner or self-employed Jane/Joe who doesn't have any backups that you were unable to recover any data off their crashed/damaged business computer. The saddest part is that it's a completely avoidable situation.
Whatever machine you end up with, make sure you properly back your important stuff up. Yes USB drives/external harddrives are better then nothing. But something like a SAN (storage area network) is even better. Many wireless routers (including ASUS ones) actually let you plug a USB harddrive into it and let you use it like a SAN where you can browse to it from any computer on your network. Just setup software like Cobian Backup (It's free and very easy to use http://www.educ.umu.se/~cobian/cobianbackup.htm) to do scheduled backups of your important folders and you have some piece of mind when the inevitable system hiccup comes your way. Hey and your data is centralized which makes it easier to manage.
An even better option is offsite backups. Anyone can do it easily, transparently, and securely now with affordable online services like carbonite and mozy. This way if there is a fire or a huge power surge or something at your house, you'll have a lot of things to worry about, but losing all of your critical business data won't be one of them (I've seen it happen to others as well as had it happen to myself).
This advice is related to this thread in that if you have backup(s) of your important stuff, getting a new computer or dealing with system crashes is much less stressful and potentially harmful to your business.

There is a small hole on the front cover. If you carefully insert one end of a paperclip it will open enough for you to get it the rest of the way without any force. When you stick the end in you might have to poke around alittle to get it on the spot but it's not hard. If your talking about while in operation and your button is not working then you can try - double click on my computer, when you see your dvd drive, right click and in the popup window left click on eject. If all that fails - use the paperclip.
