Hello, I have a problem. In the house where I live, I have the PC and the DSL router (AVM Fritzbox 7390) on the 2nd floor. On the ground floor, I would need to have a wireless coverage and a LAN port to connect a tv satellite decoder. I tried with the AVM repeater 300e but was not a solution....connection speed were VERY low. So I tried with AVM powerlines 500 (for the LAN) and was poor ( transfer speed of 1 MB/s max). I saw this new wireless router, and I tought about buy two of thes device, one to act as a wireless router (and placed near the DSL router) and the other one placed near the Sat decoder and to act as a repeater or bridge. Could it be possible to do ? Will they work ?What kind of transfer speed I could expect to have ?The distance between the DSL router and the Sat decoder is about 15m but the house is an old house with walls made of stone and concrete..and a floor in between. Any suggestions, do or don't do ? Thank you for any help and suggestions.

If your internal walls and 2nd level floor is made of thick stone signal propagation will be difficult based on your vague description so the approach with bridging may not yield the results you are after with 2 RT-AC66U devices unless the PLACEMENT of the wireless gear is optimum within the environment. Once the layout of your dwelling is much better understood --- doors, windows, stairwell, hallways --- a solution to your dilemma using wireless can be fashioned with proper placement using 2 or more RT-AC66U unites with bridging that could yield the kind of bandwidth you are after. But a proper understanding of your dwelling layout is certainly required.

Those forums are quite limited.  You'll have to use either Asuswebstorage or Dropbox.

I think it is best to explain my problem and what I would need.

I have the Humax iCordHD satellite decoder that I would like to connect permanently to my PC.
This device has a LAN port 10/100 Mbit/s.
My DSL/Wireless router is the AVM FRITZ!Box 7390.
Between the DSL/Wireless router 7390 and the Repeater 300e I have placed a Netgear WN2000RPT, to act as a repeater.
If I connect the iCordHD to my PC with an ethernet cable, I have a transfer speed of 6MB/s ( and thats good).
I tried to use the AVM FRITZ!WLAN repeater 300e, but I have only 1MB/s....
I tried with FRITZ!Powerline 500, but the device close to the Sat decoder often is not seen by the other Powerline device and/or the 7390 router.....

Seeing that the max transfer speed of the Humax decoder is only 10/100Mbit/s, I think there is no need to have such a powerful device as the RT-AC66U...I am correct ?
In this case, what would be the best solution ?
Could anyone suggest a suitable setup ?

Thanks !

Hi Aris, I am not familiar with the AVM FRITZ!Box 7390 --- I suspect that its an integrated device having many functions. I would suggest making a few adjustments. If the AVM FRITZ!Box 7390 can be put into Bridge mode so that it only functions as a xDSL modem Then get the RT-AC66U to be your primary wireless Router and Replace the Netgear WN2000RPT with another RT-AC66U placing that into bridge mode using the 5 Ghz band you would see a big improvement in bandwidth. The Netgear WN2000RPT as a repeater loses 50% of your available bandwidth while the RT-AC66U will operate at its full capability when in bridge mode. I will assume that you will place the gear in the same locations you currently showed in your diagrams. If you do not want to get the 2nd RT-AC66U -- you could try the Asus EA-N66 in Bridge mode -- the EA-N66 is a 3 stream Ethernet Adapter/AP/Bridge it would work much better than the Netgear WN2000RPT especially if joined with the RT-AC66U which is also a 3 stream device. However using 2 RT-AC66U as I described would provided the best possible bandwidth.

Hi David,
thank you very much for the precise explanation.
Just another question...
Since I cannot place an ethernet cable between the Sat decoder and the RT-AC66U in Bridge mode ( on the location of the actual WN2000RPT ), can you suggest me eventually, a Wlan device  that I can place near the Sat decoder and where I can connect it with a LAN cable ?

Do you think that the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 300e that I have could do the job ? :

BTW...this is the DSL router that I have :

Thank you very much and....sorry for all the questions !

:-)

I do not know how well your FRITZ gear operate. 90% of all repeaters have a significant disadvantage in that they will lose 50% of the bandwidth --- so I hesitate to suggest using repeater technology. Bridging also loses bandwidth [based on how good the signal is] but not nearly as severely as repeaters do. Perhaps you can hire a local electrician who may be able to string an Ethernet cable between the Sat decoder and the RT-AC66U in Bridge mode using the floor. The Powerline 500 solution would work IF the electrical run used by both ends was on the same circuit -- in your situation it failed to provide the bandwidth you needed because I suspect your Powerline was on separate circuits and that would cause significant degradation in bandwidth. Perhaps an electrician can fix that for you? With Powerline 500 you should easily see 100 Mbps both ways and if you can get Powerline working I suspect that your FRITZ gear would probably be all you need.

Dont know why, but the powerline dosent work.
Could be that the circuits on which the two adapters are plugged, ar of two diffrent group, mansard and living room....
Not possible to place an ethernet cable from the TV to the 1st floor...

Well, I think that 2 RT-AC66U placed at 15m of distance*should* be able to establish a good connection...thats the distance between the center of the mansard to the TV in the living room.
I can try to move the mansard router close to the stairs, and in this position it should be at a distance of 7-9 m of the TV...
