Hello all. I was just finishing setting up my new PC and have enabled q-fan in the bios as I have always used this before. At the same time I fitted a Noctua NH-U12P Cooler and fan which is very good. In AI suite fan expert, I click calibrate, but the fan speeds in the calibration chart seem to be all over the place...see pic at: http://s94.photobucket.com/albums/l87/statesman_2006/?action=view¤t=Fans-1.jpg I would have thought that at 100% it would show 1298rpm? Is this an asus issue or a noctua issue? Many thanks Chris

I have the same cooler, and notice that qfan setting from bios 711 don't seem to make any difference... CPU RPM is consistently around 1350 regardless of BIOS setting (Silent, Standard, Turbo). Fortunately, the NH-U12P comes with its own RPM-adjustment adapters, so I'll probably just use those. But it would be preferable to hear anyone's input or experience with this issue.

I think the reason the fan cant be variable is because the BIOS doesnt support it, and also the Noctua is a 3 pin connecter, whereas the intel HSF has a 4 pin which supports PWM Perhaps a moderator may be able to confirm this. I too notice that when I press calibrate , the fan speeds are listed all over the place instead if ascending order from the bottom, like with the Intel HSF If the fan speed cant be moderated via the BIOS, which I have had a look I would prefer that my fan goes flat out all the time, so that when I run a heavy load, it will cool better.

You are absolutely right on this one.
The FanXpert is only supported for PWM fan (i.e. 4-pin) as it takes the advantage of the PWM control chip inside the fan itself, and triggers the fan ratio by sending requests to such controller.
