I am an amateur, who has an old HP760c with an ASUS MOBO "P4B266LA" and INTEL P4-1.9GHz, socket 478, 400FSB, L2 chip. I think the CPU runs at 400MHz.

The MOBO originally was equipped with (2x) 256MB DDR 266MHz CL2.5.  I already upgraded once with a single Kingston KVR266X64C25/1G which runs fine.  But I want better audio/video performance and want to upgrade more. Economics is now a concern.

Question 1: Can I buy another 1G like the current 1G?
Question 2) If possible, can I buy faster DDR, like 400, and make any bios setting changes?
Appreciate any help whatsoever.  Thanks, Bill

You cannot use faster DDR than your existing 266Mhz modules as that is all the system will handle. Adding another 1Gb should be possible according to Kingston's memory configurator:

HP Pavilion 760c

It says you can install a maximum of 2Gb on this system. Another 1Gb module will cost you roughly $65 plus any tax, P&P.
