Can anyone explain what is meant in the manual by chipset fan is synchronized with the CPU fan?

Would there be any conflict/problem connecting a case fan (controlled by a Zalman Fanmate to reduce voltage) to the chipset fan header?

I imagine that the chipset fan(if one was connected) would change speed with heat load as the cpu fan does(cool'n'quiet). I have a Thermaltake blower wheel fan at rear of my case and have the yellow sense wire connected to chipset fan connector, purely to monitor the speed, as the fan is controlled from a Tt controller.
Hope this helps.

I think it says that the chipset fan is sync'd with the cha_1 fan. I have tried lots of fans with the cha_1 fan, and most won't work with qfan enabled in the bios. With qfan off, I can monitor and control the fan (cpu also) with speedfan. Way better than hardware, I think...

The chipset fan header is synchronized with the CPU fan header is what the manual says. I just want to know what that means -- without using Qfan.

Thats not what it says in my manual.
Page 2-24. 4th paragraph down beside exclamation mark(!)

"The chipset fan is synchronised with the the CPU fan"

This means the fans are running at the same speeds.
Do this little test, connect a fan to CHIP_FAN connector, and check the speed in AI Booster or whatever program you have to monitor fans, and it should be roughly the same speed as CPU fan.

Well, the only way they can be synchronized is through the fan headers, unless there is another way to connect the fans???

If the speed is synchronized and you use a fan controller ( Zalman Fanmate for example) to connect a fan to the chipset fan header, then what you're saying is the fan controller has no effect?

Example: cpu fan connected with 880 rpm to cpu fan header and case fan connected via a Zalman Fanmate to chipset fan header to reduce rpm has no effect?

I don't have the my system built yet so cannot perform any tests, and I don't know if I should perform such a test when it's built :)

I'm not familiar with Zalman fanmate, but do they increase voltage to fan?? Or do they adjust voltage from mobo to fan??

have been thinking about this too. came to the conclusion, that the manual is in error here. probably a reminiscent from the past, when there was indeed a chipsetfan.

i've tested it and when connecting a fan to the chipset-header it's running at full speed. so no synchronizing.

at the moment i'm using this chipset-fanheader as a feed to a fanmate-controlled hdd-fan. works fine.

dualcore, you beat me to it, i was just testing the theory, and you are correct, the power from the CHIPSET_FAN connector was steady at 12.0v  and did not vary when CPU loading was low.

JVM,
You may be able to control fan from that connector with that Zalman fanmate. :)
